Week 1 Plan a script

BYO project.

Starting from a blank page, learn techniques for designing and drafting your text — and put them immediately to practice. Bring your own project idea to work on during the session (for example: article, report, email, documentation).

  • key messages

  • story

  • hook & solution

Week 2 Buzzwords & other fluff

BYO project.

Some words and phrases get so overused, they lose meaning. We’ll look at a few published examples from your industry to practice picking out the jargon — and keep it out of our own texts.

  • repetition & rephrasing

  • telltale non-native English writing signs

  • sounding like a university essay

Week 3 Know your audience

BYO project.

Make sure your content lands where and how you want it to. We’ll go beyond the standard marketing customer profile, to explore your audience from a writer’s perspective.

  • where and when do they see your content

  • how long do they have to read

  • what do they want to know

Week 4 Editing

BYO project.

No text is complete without a good edit. Learn and practice techniques for self-editing, as well as dealing with revisions and suggestions from others.

  • identify your key messages & cutting fluff

  • build your own style guide

  • working with beta readers
